filtration. This brand-new technology is based on photocatalytic
oxidation of organic compounds to innocuous clean air components.
Nowadays, Photocatalysis is the most efficient and cost-effective
air purification technology. Scientists estimate this to be the main
method of air purification in the 21st century.. |
| Many people and motorists as in particular should
have heard of the so-called catalysts – thermocatalytic car exhaust combustors.
In these very devices oxidation of toxic substance takes place on the
catalyst surface under the influence of high temperatures. Photocatalytic
air purification is somewhat similar. In fact PCO is a representation
of natural methods of air purification. |
| The most essential element of
the photocatalytic process is the oxidation that takes place on the catalyst
surface under the influence of a mild ultraviolet light with the wavelength
of less than 300 nm. The reaction runs at a room temperature. One of
its main advantages is that no accumulation of toxic admixtures takes
place: noxious compounds decompose into innocuous air components, such
as carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen. |
| The method of Photocatalysis is more than 20 years
old. Several years ago the technology was applied to the mass production.
Photocatalysis was the subject of five international conferences held
from 1993-1999. Below is the list of some areas of application of the
photocatalytic technology introduced there: |
| - Explosives factory (USA) |
| - Microelectronics production facilities (USA) |
| - The Boeing Company |
| - Car Exhibitions (Japan) |
| - Homes (Japan) |
| - Hospitals (pathogenic bacteria elimination) |
| - Allergic diseases
treatment (Asthma, Bronchitis, etc.) (USA) |
| AIRLIFE purification systems
are based on the method of the photocatalytic oxidation. |
